Cleaning the Lens of a Optical Drive

You don’t just throw it out the window and get a new one, and you don’t even have to give it to a technician to fix it or need to run down to electronics store to get a lens cleaner.
You may have all ready guessed that the solution written about is a do it your-self solution.

Things you may need to do this:

• Proper tools to open the optical drive.
• Cotton Buds
• Isopropyl Alcohol or Plain Nail Polish Remover
• A Hair Dryer (Optional)

How to do this?

There are a few simple steps to revive your optical drive if the lens is dirty.
1. Unplug from power source and remove drive or device in question.
Note:
a. If it concerns a device directly connect an electrical outlet, please ensure it is unplugged to avoid electrocution from any internal components.
b. If it is an optical drive from a computer or laptop, just remove the device from its host.

2. Open the device making sure all components are stored properly for the duration of the fix.
3. Access the lens.
4. Dip an end of the cotton bud with either isopropyl alcohol or plain nail polish remover.
5. Gently wipe the lens with the wet end of the cotton bud and repeat with dry end.
6. Blow Dry with hair dryer to be sure the lens is completely dry.
7. Put back all components removed and close the drive or device.
8. Check by popping in a disc and see if it reads

It’s hard to believe isn’t it, but it actually works.
